THERAPEUTIC WRITING GROUPSOur lives are a language of interwoven stories, with hills and valleys, with spectacular vistas to explore and at time with cataclysmic storms to endure.
Humans live in relationship with others. Sharing our stories are how we give sense and meaning to our lives. When we encounter trauma and loss, stories provide a way to heal. Our truth is often now fully know until we distance ourselves from it by writing it down. Whether we are trying to find meaning following the death of a loved one, the end of a marriage, or after physical illness or abuse, stories can help us to process what has happened. By embracing our stories and those of the people closest to us, and by sharing them, we can gain understanding of our experiences and begin to reframe them, we can open the door to write new endings. Dr. Diane Pomerantz, a Licensed Psychologist with over 38 years of experience, offers Writing for Your Life Groups in her Towson, Maryland office. She is available to lead workshops and retreats. |
“Storytelling is healing. As we reveal ourselves in story, we become aware of the continuing core of our lives under the fragmented surface of our experience... Most important, as we become aware of ourselves as storytellers, we realize that what we understand and imagine about ourselves is a story, and knowing this, we can use our stories to heal and make ourselves whole.”
