“Wow, what an amazing book! The prologue scene, which features kitty Mr. Button’s not-so mysterious disappearance, is worthy of Hitchcock. It is powerfully cinematic and grabs the reader’s attention. Diane Pomerantz knows how to immerse the reader in the world of the story using captivating action, vivid descriptions, interesting characters and a direct, engaging writing style. She does such a great job of setting each scene and explaining how Charles could captivate her and fool her into dismissing the warning signs about his controlling personality. I couldn’t put the book down. I wanted to know what happened. I stayed up past my bedtime reading this book and could not rest until I finished it. Diane certainly creates a sense of connection with the reader.”

A powerful story of a relationship that gradually turns sour and abusive. The author helps us understand how it's possible to believe in someone, even when we have evidence to the contrary. A memoir writer myself, I'm always on the lookout for great memoirs. Diane Pomerantz is not just a psychologist, but a beautiful writer. This story gripped me from the beginning and didn’t let go.

This book perfectly captured the insidious nature of an emotionally abusive marriage, offering the reader an intimate account of the slow downward spiral a relationship with a narcissistic individual can take. Initially engaging and charming, her self-absorbed husband demonstrated an array of positive qualities when things were seemingly going his way. Over time, his self- absorption, contempt, and lack of empathy became increasingly apparent and further eroded the marriage until Diane was forced to face with brutal awareness the reality of her partner, as well as take steps to regain her independence and self-confidence. Beautifully written and highly recommended.

“This is a NON-fiction book, not a psychological thriller.” I had to remind myself of this fact at every turn of the page. LOST IN THE REFLECTING POOL is a well written, captivating, first-hand account of a long-term, abusive relationship between a psychologist wife (author, Diane Pomerantz) and a psychiatrist husband; it’s downright frightening.

I was completely riveted by this book and once I had started I couldn't focus on anything else until I got to the end. It must have been hard to write but it was mesmerizing to read. How someone, supposedly an expert on relationships, took so long to realize what was wrong with her husband and then tried to deal with him without destroying their family makes for a painful but compelling story.
